For successfully implementing the government’s anti-rabies campaign, the city government was recognized as the nation’s best anti-rabies implementer.

During the celebration of World Rabies Awareness Day, Dr. Eugene Gornez, chief of the city veterinary office, received the recognition from the Department of Health (DOH) National Rabies Prevention and Control Program during the recognition night held in Pasay City.

“The city was recognized for its ‘zero’ rabies death case for the past five years,” Gornez said in a phone interview.

Gornez attributed the successful campaign to the support of Mayor Joseph Evangelista through his Health, Nutrition, Education and Public Safety programs that he started after he was elected for his first term as local chief executive in 2013.

Evangelista is in his last term as city chief executive.

Gornez also attributed the success of the anti-rabies drive to the cooperation of the public, pet owners and local radio stations for the support it extended to the city veterinary office. (PNA)
