The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday logged 360 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the nation’s overall tally to 2,836,803.

In its latest case bulletin, the DOH said the active cases dipped further to 11,083 with a relatively lower number of new infections.

Among the active cases, 4,292 are mild, 782 are asymptomatic, 399 are critical, 1,948 are severe, and 3,662 are moderate.

“Of the 360 reported cases today, 348 or 97 percent occurred within the recent 14 days – November 30 to December 13, 2021,” the DOH said.

It added that the top regions with most cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region with 65 or 19 percent, Calabarzon with 32 or 9 percent, and Western Visayas with 32 or 9 percent of the country’s new cases.

The DOH, meanwhile, tallied 519 new recoveries which pushed the total number of recovered cases to 2,775,379.

The death toll has reached 50,341 with 61 new deaths.

“Of the 61 deaths, nine or 15 percent occurred in December 2021, 26 or 43 percent in November 2021, 23 or 38 percent in October 2021, and three or 5 percent in September 2021 due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya,” the DOH said.

The COVIDKaya is a digital application used by health care workers to collect and share data about Covid-19 cases.

The DOH added that this issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date.

According to DOH data on December 11, about 1.1 percent of 35,811 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

“About two duplicates were removed from the total case count, one of the two is a recovered case. Also, there were 147 cases that have tested negative, and they have been reclassified as recoveries after final validation,” the DOH said.

It added 49 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Four laboratories were not operational on December 11 and five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

The DOH noted the seven laboratories contribute, on average, 1.7 percent of samples tested, and 0.8 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.

To date, 23 percent of 3,500 intensive care unit (ICU) beds, 24 percent of 19,600 isolation beds, 12 percent of 12,300 ward beds, and 12 percent of 3,000 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.

Meanwhile, 25 percent of 1,200 ICU beds, 19 percent of 4,700 isolation beds, 18 percent of 3,700 ward beds, and 15 percent of 1,000 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region. (PNA)
