A total of 159 out of the 175 Certificates of Canvass (COCs) in the May 12 midterm elections have been canvassed, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Wednesday.
In a message to reporters, Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco reported that 58 COCs were canvassed on Tuesday, the first day of the canvassing, and 101 more on Wednesday.
“The highest number of COCs canvassed by the National Board in the history of Philippine Elections,” Laudiangco said. “Fastest too in just two days.”
With this, there are only 16 COCs left that will be canvassed on Thursday, he added.
The Comelec en banc, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC), conducted four sessions on Wednesday. The canvassing is set to reconvene at 2 p.m. on Thursday.
Canvassing is being conducted at the Tent City of the Manila Hotel.
In a press conference, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia said they were looking at proclaiming the winning senatorial candidates and party-list groups this weekend.
“The earliest is Saturday, the latest is Sunday. It won’t be a partial proclamation. Hopefully, we can proclaim all of them,” he said. (PNA)
