Brian Cu decided to leave his role as president of Grab Philippines to focus on other entrepreneurial interests as well as his personal life, the company announced on Wednesday.

“Lumalaki na rin po ang aking mga anak, and I want to spend more time with them as well,” Cu wrote in a statement.

Additionally, he assured drivers and merchants that Grab will continue to support their partnership to ensure their growth with the company through a video statement he released the following day.

“Sa aking paglisan, gusto kong i-assure kayong lahat na itutuloy po natin ang mga suporta sa ating mga partners—all the drivers, all the merchants, susuportahan po namin kayo sa inyong kabuhayan,” he said. “Tuloy-tuloy ang aming pag-coordinate sa inyo para mag-grow kayo with the Grab family.”

Cu headed the Grab company for 7 years. The app was initially launched for ride-hailing purposes before it ventured into different types of delivery services including GrabFood, GrabMart, and GrabPabili.

The resignation will take effect on August 14, 2020. While there are no further details on who will take over, Grab Philippines expressed gratitude for the phenomenal growth their president has contributed to the company.

“We thank Brian for his invaluable contributions to Grab Philippines’ growth, and we are excited for him and his next endeavors.”
