Sun Cruises Inc., the only ferry service that transports travelers from Manila Bay to the Corregidor Island, has announced on Tuesday that it shut down operations effective May 16. It has been active on a daily basis since 1988.

In spite of the fact that the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has drastically taken a toll on businesses across the globe, visitors who came and saw the historical spot were still saddened by the news.

Sun Cruises Inc. broke the news on Facebook.

“We wish to convey our warmest thanks for all the support and patronage you have shared with us all these years. We will forever treasure the fond memories of each tour and each voyage you and your families entrusted with us for so many years,” the management wrote.

“Please do continue to consider Corregidor in your future travel plans and leisure activities. Exciting things should be up and coming once the vision for Corregidor as a Tourism Zone becomes a reality soon,” they assured.

The notice then ended with a reminder that “we were all part of the beautiful story called CORREGIDOR.”

Corregidor Island gave guests a glimpse of the Philippines during the second World War. Local and foreign tourists as well as academic institutions have consistently included this destination in their must-visits.
