At least 169,423 Dabawenyos have availed of modern or natural family planning services since July 2023, the City Health Office (CHO) said Tuesday.

With this, the CHO called on couples anew to avail of free family planning services as part of its family planning programs.

“Lectures on responsible parenthood, optimal birth spacing, and other methods of family planning and birth control are offered through the City Population Division’s (CPD) intensified information dissemination conducted in barangays and during caravans,” it said in a statement Tuesday.

Moreover, the CHO said it continues to offer free family planning services, including the distribution of various types of birth control pills, intrauterine devices, ligation, vasectomies, and condoms.

It urged males who no longer wish to have more children to avail of free No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) from the CPD every last Friday of the month.

The NSV is a quick, safe, and effective permanent family planning method that lasts 10 minutes to 15 minutes without incisions or stitches. Recovery time is just one to two days, and the effectiveness rate is 99.8 percent.

During his 2nd State of the City Address last week, Mayor Sebastian Duterte emphasized the importance of proper family planning.

He urged parents to be mindful in deciding their family size and ensure they are financially stable enough to provide for their family, especially their children. (PNA)
