British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is “clinically stable and “responding to treatment,” a Downing Street statement said Wednesday.

He remains in “good spirits” after spending his third night in hospital, his spokesman said in a briefing.

Johnson went into intensive care on Monday after his situation deteriorated with persistent coronavirus symptoms.

“The PM remains clinically stable and is responding to treatment. He continues to be cared for in the intensive care unit of St Thomas’ hospital and is in good spirits,” the statement said.

“The PM is receiving standard oxygen treatment and breathing without assistance,” the statement added, repeating what a government statement said yesterday.

Health Minister Edward Argar earlier said the prime minister is “comfortable, he’s stable, he’s in good spirits”.

Johnson had been admitted to intensive care Monday evening as his condition had deteriorated since being infected with the novel coronavirus nearly 2 weeks ago.

The premier has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab, the first secretary of state, to stand in for him when necessary, the statement said. (PNA)
