Showing their talent even though they are physically impaired, the Philippine team successfully won 11 medals during the Tokyo 2023 Para DanceSports International Competition.

Wrapping up their competition on August 5 to 6, the Philippine Para DanceSports Team made the country proud with their outstanding performance, claiming gold and bronze medals.

The Philippine team was able to get recognition from Duo Latin Class 2, Combi Freestyle Class 2, Duo Freestyle Class 2, Single Women’s Class 2, Single Men’s Class 2, and Duo Standard Class 2.

In the said divisions, Julius Obero, Rhea Marque, and Edelyn De Asis were the ones who were able to get gold medals during the competition.

Overall, the Philippine team was able to get six gold medals, three silver medals, and two bronze medals.

“I am so proud to be part of Philippine Team Para Dancesport, seeing my co-athletes bring home the bacon to make our country proud. My first Para Dancesport competition was a rocky road muntikan ng hindi makapag-compete, but God is always with us, and guess what? We still get into the finals of Combi Latin 5 dance (all Filipinos in the finals) and Combi freestyle, and yes we are qualified to compete in the World Championship,” one of the athletes, Rose Marquez-Villaruel, said.

With this win, the team will have its next competition in Genoa, Italy, to compete for the title of World Champion.
