The Philippines Women’s National Softball Team, the Blu Girls, left an impressive performance at the Women’s Softball World Cup 2023 after beating Italy.

During the opening round of the XVII Women’s Softball World Cup 2023, the Philippine team already showed off their skills, surpassing the host country and the 8th team in the Women’s Softball Rankings.
Team Philippines’ Nicole Hammoude reached home plate and scored their sixth run after Angelu Gabriel struck out Christina Tonioli’s pitch, ending the game with a 6-5 walk-off win.

The match marked the Philippines’ double victory after winning against New Zealand with a score of 5-3 on the same day that the Philippines Women’s National Football Team defeated New Zealand in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

Due to weather conditions, the initial July 24 match between the Philippines and Italy was postponed to July 25, with the score at 1-1, held at Castions di Strada and Buttrio in Italy.

Securing the fourth and last spot, the Blu Girls keep their winning chance alive as they play Italy once more on Wednesday, July 26, for the playoffs.

Leading the Philippines’ national team to their double victories, Nicole Hammoude was named Player of the Day.
