After being voted the world’s second most “Instagrammable” destination for 2021 by worldwide travel website Big 7 Travel, the Philippines has gained distinction, besting tourist destinations Paris, France, and Phuket, Thailand.

“Home to incredible natural wonders like an underground river and tranquil rice terraces in addition to a vibrant culture and history spanning several millennia; and over 7,500 islands – the Philippines as a whole are extremely Instagrammable,” said the Global Travel website.

The “absolute oasis” of Boracay and Manila “complete with colorful colonial streets” was also one of the places mentioned by Big 7 Travel.

The Department of Tourism also extended its gratitude to the global travel website and celebrated this feat via Facebook post:

Since 2019, when it was placed 43rd, the Philippines has remained on the list, rising to 36th in 2020.

The Philippines has risen 34 places this year to second place, just behind Tokyo, Japan.

The number of hashtags per destination, survey results from audiences, and inputs from Big 7 Travel’s editorial team are what determined the list.
