The city government started on Monday the implementation of the “no vaccine, no entry” policy to non-residents in response to the rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Anthony Bayarong, chief of the Olongapo City Public Affairs Office, said Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. has ordered the setting up of border checkpoints requiring non-residents to present proof of vaccination before they can enter the city.

“No vaccine, no entry po tayo sa Olongapo for non-residents. As a reminder always bring your vaccine card. Please be safe everyone,” Bayarong said in a social media post on Monday.

Olongapo City is one of the five areas in Central Luzon that was placed under Alert Level 3 effective January 9 to 15. Other places in the region are the provinces of Bataan, Pampanga, and Zambales, and Angeles City.

Based on the report of the Olongapo Task Force COVID-19 as of January 9, the Covid-19 active cases in the city rose to 202 after 63 new confirmed cases were reported.

The city has recorded a total of 5,660 infections with 5,141 of them declared as recovered cases. The death toll is 317.

Paulino reminded his constituents to strictly comply with the minimum health standards amid the threat of the highly transmissible Omicron Covid-19 variant. (PNA)
