The Department of Health in Region 10 announced Wednesday that three new patients tested positive of Covid-19, bringing to five the confirmed cases in Northern Mindanao this March.

Dr. Dave Mendoza, DOH-10 assistant director, said the two new Covid-19 patients are admitted at Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City and the third is being treated at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC).

The two Covid-19 patients earlier reported have already died, the first one on March 8 and the second on March 22.

In a press conference, Mendoza said the region has 219 patients under investigation (PUIs), 21 of whom are admitted in various hospitals while 35 have been discharged after treatment.

The rest of the PUIs, he said, are either under home quarantine or have been cleared after the mandatory 14-day period.

Out of the 3,817 persons under monitoring (PUMs), 1,989 are undergoing a 14-day quarantine while 1,828 have completed the quarantine period, DOH-10 records show.

Daughter positive

Meanwhile, the daughter of one of the patients who tested positive and died recently of Covid-19 has been infected with the virus, health authorities said.

Mendoza said the 27-year-old daughter of the person who was also known as “patient 40” (PH40) contracted Covid-19 while taking care of her father at the NMMC.

Her mother, who was quarantined with her at NMMC, tested negative for Covid-19.

PH40, originally from Lanao del Sur, was a resident of Pasig City. He came back to Mindanao and was admitted to NMMC on March 8 after undergoing treatment at the Adventist Medical Center in Iligan City on Feb. 24. (PNA)
