Netflix, the world’s leading media streaming platform, will be expanding their services by adding video games on its platform within the next year.

The company hired a video game veteran that was from Facebook Inc., to lead the team when it comes to conceptualizing the games that will be featured in the video platform, according to the report of Bloomberg.

On Wednesday, Netflix confirmed that former Facebook’s Oculus, Electronic Arts and Zynga executive, Mike Verdu will be in-charge as vice president of games development.

According to the person cited by Bloomberg who requested to hide his identity, Netflix wants to make its own games exclusively for the streaming platform. The viewers can find the games as it appears as a new programming genre on the platform.

Currently, Netflix doesn’t have a plan yet in charging additional fees for this new feature, he added.

In 2018, the company first attempted to show interactive entertainment on the platform such as The Black Mirror Bandersnatch episode that allows the users to choose how the story will go during an episode.

The world of gaming is not a new thing to the company. In 2019, they also announced a video game based on its hit original series “Stranger Things.”

Adding video games will be a way for Netflix to captivate new consumers and to offer something that their direct competitor doesn’t possess. Like Walt Disney CoaT & T Inc. WarnerMedia and Amazon.com Inc. all have access to live sports but none of their main video services include gaming.

As of writing, Netflix already has more than 200 million subscribers and still continues to provide their viewers with quality shows and documentaries.
