The American Chamber (AmCham) of Commerce in Philippines-Mindanao on Wednesday said the island region of Mindanao remains viable for investments despite the recent bombing in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.

Ed Bullecer, a board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Philippines-Mindanao, said the bombing in a gymnasium in Mindanao State University (MSU) killing four and injuring more than 50 has also brought grief to the business group.

“In AmCham, our associates are shocked [of what happened], but in so far as investment is concerned, they continue, and they have not canceled their scheduled visits here in January,” Bullecer said in a press briefing.

He added that they are saddened by the situation, but “it’s not enough to dampen our spirit. As for the Marawi incident, we pray for the victims.”

He also described the assurance of the security sector as “comforting enough.”

Meanwhile, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) – Mindanao expressed solidarity with Mindanawons on the Marawi blast, even as it called on the government “to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Likewise, the chamber recognized the efforts of the national government and the local government units to ensure the safety of the Mindanao people. (PNA)
