McDonald’s Philippines recently signed a memorandum of agreement with the Pasig City government, headed by Mayor Victor Ma. Regis “Vico” Sotto, to extend employment opportunities to Pasigeño senior citizens (SCs) and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

In its bid to further promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, McDonald’s Philippines is committed in growing its alternative workforce by hiring at least two SCs and one PWD in 10 participating stores in the city.

The partnership will provide them the opportunity to earn while learning new skills, providing them the same world-class training which the company provides to all its directly hired employees.

Aside from the training program, approved by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Pasig, and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), qualified applicants will be entitled to a regular employee’s compensation, benefits, and a life insurance policy to be secured by the company.

“We are excited to have more senior citizens and PWDs assist in serving our customers as we have witnessed their potential, capabilities and commitment in providing great customer service. To date, we have over 60 senior citizens employed in different restaurants in Manila and as we welcome our Pasigeño senior citizens and PWDs, we look forward to expanding the alternative workforce and roll it out to more cities,” Yang said.

Under the agreement, hired SCs and PWDs will be assigned to perform tasks such as being an order presenter, drink drawer, table manager and overall guest relations.

Senior Citizens will be assigned work for not more than 4 hours per day for five days a week, with shifts set at 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Meanwhile, PWDs will perform work in shifts also applied to regular crew members, but not to exceed eight hours a day.

“The success of our people is our success. We are committed in their (senior citizens and persons with disabilities) training and development to ensure their growth in the company and as individuals,” Yang added.

In September, McDonald’s Philippines has also partnered with the City of Manila after Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso’s call for QSRs to hire SCs and PWDs in the country’s capital.
