On January 24, the whole world celebrates the International Day of Education. Recently declared on the 3rd of December 2018, this special observance was declared by the United Nations General Assembly as a celebration of the pivotal role of education to bring global peace and sustainable development.

This year’s celebration aim to position education and learning as the most renewable resource and reiterate its role as a fundamental right, a public need and a helpful promoter of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (or SDGs).

UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that the key role of education in achieving SDGs is to achieve “far more to advance Sustainable Development Goal 4, to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

The theme for 2020’s celebration is “Learning for People, Planet, Prosperity and Peace” to highlight the integrated nature of education, its humanitarian aims and its connection to harmonious development initiatives.

Happy Education Day, everyone!
