San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte mayor Domingo Ambrocio Jr. vowed Monday his new administration will prioritize the improvement of the public markets to better serve its constituents.

“The public market is where people gather to buy their food. It is like the face of our town and it’s a major local revenue source of the municipality hence, the need to be improved,” he said.

Ambrocio said the public market will become the center of commerce in San Nicolas town as it takes advantage of its geographic location.

Three national roads pass through San Nicolas –one from Manila on the south, another from Tuguegarao on the north, and one from Nueva Era on the east converge at this place.

Several market vendors have expressed their concern about the proper disposal of wastes, and ensuring cleanliness and sanitation in the area.

They also underscored the need to improve natural lighting and ventilation, including a provision of clean restrooms without charges to market-goers.

“More parking spaces should also be made available for customers,” said Pat Guira, a resident. (PNA)
