Forty high school students from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in San Luis, Agusan del Sur, have begun a three-month training program on financial literacy and entrepreneurship, which will run through November.

“The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Caraga Region (DSWD-13) and the World Bank selected San Luis, specifically Cecilia National High School in Barangay Cecilia, as the pilot area for this initiative,” said Marko Davey Reyes, the DSWD-13 information office chief, in an interview Monday.

The program, which started on August 30, targets Grades 11 and 12 students and is designed to teach financial literacy, enhance economic resilience, and promote youth development among 4Ps beneficiaries.

Results and impacts from the training will be evaluated after three months to determine its potential for replication in other provinces within the region.

“The selected students, whose parents are also 4Ps beneficiaries, have been grouped into one section to receive lessons in financial literacy and entrepreneurship,” Reyes said.

The students will receive bi-monthly lectures covering essential financial and entrepreneurial topics, including budgeting, saving, and debt management, with an emphasis on their practical significance.

The entrepreneurship component aims to develop teamwork and analytical skills among the students, skills that they can apply in their daily lives.

The San Luis town government welcomed the program, noting that the students could share their learning with other youth groups. (PNA)
