As the country observes the 83rd anniversary of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) this Wednesday, Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. hopes that commemoration of this historic event will further strengthen Filipinos’ resolve to defend the country against aggression.

“May the commemoration of this fateful event further strengthen our resolve to protect our homeland against foreign aggression and inspire unity among Filipinos,” he said in a statement.

Galvez said the best way to honor the country’s fallen heroes is by working together to sustain the gains of peace which they have fought so hard to achieve.

“The men and women of the OPAPRU are one with the Filipino people as we pay tribute to the thousands of Filipino soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Fall of Bataan over eight decades ago,” he added.

The OPAPRU chief also said that Araw ng Kagitingan not only honors the gallantry of the soldiers who perished during that fateful period in history, but is also a reminder of sacrifices made in defending the country and securing a just and landing peace.

“On this Day of Valor, let us keep in mind that we don’t need to be in the frontlines of battle to become a hero. Each and every one of us, with our unique set of skills and talents, can become one by becoming beacons of peace, mutual understanding and solidarity among our people,” he added. (PNA)
