It’s a big moment for showbiz as another Fil-Am makes something historic. The Global Globes, renowned for honoring exceptional accomplishments in international film and television, found an ideal emcee in Jo Koy.

Joseph Glenn Herbert, commonly known by his stage name Jo Koy, is a Fil-Am comedian born in Tacoma, Washington.

He was born to a white American father who was in the United States Air Force stationed in the Philippines when he married Koy’s Filipino mother, making Koy proud of his Filipino roots.

Koy’s journey from stand-up stages to hosting a major international ceremony makes history for being the first-ever Fil-Am to host the Golden Globes.

He also became the second Asian host in Globes history, following Sandra Oh, who emceed the show in 2019.

His hosting of the Global Globes also fulfills the comedian’s childhood dream of hosting the event. In his opening monologue at the 81st Annual Golden Globes, he reminisced about his childhood dream and shared the moment with his mother while predicting winners from their living room sofa and watching awarding ceremonies.

On the other hand, in a surprising and controversial move, the comedian’s sharp-tongued commentary aimed at international star Taylor Swift sparked a wave of offense among Swifties and fueled hot conversations on social media.

Koy broke the internet by throwing some pointed, negative shade at Taylor Swift during his hosting.

“The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL. is that on the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift, I swear.”

This pun added an intriguing layer of controversy to the event that made his hosting be remembered for both its record and the unexpected clash with Swift and the netizens.
