The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Antique provincial office assured on Tuesday consumers of an adequate supply of basic necessities in supermarkets and retail stores.

DTI Antique information officer Lynna Joy Cardinal said they noted an adequate supply of goods during their monitoring of supermarkets and stores throughout the province on Monday.

“The store managers also informed DTI that they have delivery of goods coming this week,” she said in an interview.

Cardinal added DTI is monitoring the supply of goods in all 18 municipalities of the province in support also to the Executive Order Number 35, series of 2020 issued by Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao.

The EO is to strengthen measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The EO implements travel restrictions of persons within, or to and from, the province of Antique by land, sea, and air common and private carriers.

The EO to ensure that there will be no food shortage in the province as it has exempted duly licensed entrepreneurs, suppliers, and sellers of food items, medicine, and other basic necessities as well as hardware and construction materials when making deliveries of their products.

The governor appealed for consumers not to resort to panic-buying because this could create an artificial shortage of goods.

“Antique has sufficient rice and supply of basic necessities in the stores,” she said. (PNA)
