Philippines was left shaken up after the news broke out that a plane crash happened on the evening of March 29 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The trip was supposed to land in Haneda, Japan for a medical evacuation. The ill-fated flight caused eight casualties — six crew members and two passengers. One of them was Dr. Cenover Nicandro “Nicko” Bautista who accompanied a patient.

Since the incident, netizens have been digging through his last social media entries. Judging by his profile, it can be noted that Dr. Nicko can be outspoken especially when it comes to the welfare of his fellow health workers.

“I stand with the medical community in honoring one of our fallen comrade in his battle with COVID-19,” he stated. This was after a doctor died due to a COVID-19 patient lying about their travel history.

“May your soul rest in peace good doctor. We will continue the fight,” the post ended.

Unfortunately, a few days later, he is going to receive the same message.

Dr. Nicko’s sister, Ria Bautista, grieved the passing of her younger brother. Along with her post is Dr. Nicko’s alleged last post.

“I can’t wait for all of this to be over,” Dr. Nicko started. “For all of the worrying to be done. For all the uncertainties to end.”

“I can’t wait to go back to how it was. To see my friends. To drink with my cousins. To kiss my niece. To hug my dad. And for my sister to be well,” the hopeful doctor continued.

“But before that time comes, let me do this for you guys. Let’s fight this, and in all honesty, I’m scared as hell,” he opened up for the last time.

Dr. Cenover Nicandro “Nicko” Bautista was part of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila’s (PLM) College of Medicine Class of 2013. He was assigned in the surgery department at the Mandaluyong City Medical Center. He died at 33.
