The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has forged a memorandum of agreement with a civic organization to enhance support and protection for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

In a news release on Tuesday, the DMW said the MOA signed with the Global Filipino Movement (GFM) would benefit OFWs worldwide through programs that would help improve their welfare and well-being.

Both DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac and GFM Chairman Efraim Tendero expressed full support for the partnership during the signing on Monday in Mandaluyong City.

Under the agreement, the DMW and GFM committed to collaborating on key initiatives such as the establishment of OFW Help Desks in various local government units (LGUs) nationwide, including expanded information-sharing.

The GFM also committed to assisting in the conduct of migration seminars, anti-illegal recruitment campaigns, and financial literacy sessions for OFWs and their families.

Moreover, the partnership would include collaboration in providing legal assistance to OFWs who need it, psychological support, skills development programs, and LGU staff training to enhance the overall assistance provided to Filipino migrant workers.

Outreach efforts will also be intensified through various social media platforms, the mass media, and community engagement to reach more OFWs worldwide.

Cacdac, meanwhile, underscored the significance of the collaboration in delivering better services for OFWs.

The GFM is a non-stock, non-profit Christian foundation that has extended ministry services to the OFWs and their families both internationally and locally. (PNA)
