The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and 15 of its police stations have set up their own version of a community pantry dubbed as “Pantry ng Pulis” along San Pedro Street here.

In an interview Monday, DCPO spokesperson Capt. Rose Aguilar said they established the pantry on Saturday (April 24) to help the Dabawenyos in need.

All police stations have put up their respective pantries in their areas of responsibility, Aguilar said.

“Many people say that it is a trend and ‘nakiuso’ kami, but our intentions are clear that the cops are also capable of helping the community,” she told the Philippine News Agency.

Aguilar said most of the displayed products in their pantries are mostly basic commodities.

“We shared, and we see to it that we can be of service to the community. The Davao police are not just focusing on crime prevention, but we also find ways to be close to the communities,” Aguilar said.

Aguilar assured that health protocols are strictly observed in all police-managed community pantries.

“We are particular for the Dabawenyo’s safety and at the same time looked on their health. With the challenge of the pandemic, we hope our donated vegetables would nourish their families. This is one way of showing that despite the negative issues thrown at us [cops], we are also committed to helping those in need,” she added. (PNA)
