The city government here received an ambulance unit worth PHP1.7 million from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

This city was chosen as a recipient of the emergency response vehicle, which will be dispatched for use of the Amity Volunteer Fire Brigade, as a recognition for its development efforts amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

Negros Occidental Filipino-Chinese Amity Club corporate secretary Crispin Chua said in a statement on Tuesday this is the first time the Chinese Embassy in the country donated to Bacolod.

“They saw how the city has progressed under Mayor (Evelio) Leonardia that’s why they gave an ambulance to the city which will be operated by the Amity Club,” he said.

Leonardia, who turned over the ambulance to the Amity Club led by chairman Johnny Yap at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds on Monday, lauded the volunteer group for helping out communities in Bacolod for 44 years.

“It is not just gratifying but also flattering. I salute the Amity because it was given the privilege by the Chinese Embassy. I am very happy with that and I am grateful that this happened because this will benefit the people of Bacolod,” he added. (PNA)
