The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Thursday said more higher education institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines are expected to secure joint agreements with universities in China.

This, as the CHED will participate in the China-ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Education Cooperation Week in China’s Guizhou province from Aug. 27 to Sept. 2.

In a teleradio interview, CHED Chairperson J. Prospero de Vera III said over 10 leaders of various Philippine HEIs will be joining his trip.

“Ako din ay magsasalita sa ministerial meeting. Pero habang nandun na rin naman ako, may kasama akong mga pangulo ng iba’t ibang pamantasan sa Pilipinas (I will also be speaking in the ministerial meeting. But while I’m there, I will be with the presidents of various universities in the Philippines),” de Vera said.

“Sila ay magpipirma ng mga agreement with Chinese universities sa iba’t ibang aspeto (They will be signing agreements with Chinese universities on various fields or aspects),” he added.

De Vera declined to cite possible fields and programs subject to agreements.

“Kami rin ay bibisita sa ilang pamantasan dun para pagsamahin ‘yung mga presidente, presidente ng Chinese universities. Simulan ang pag-uusap kung ano ba ‘yung mga potensyal na collaboration na mangyayari (We shall also visit some universities there to gather the presidents, including the presidents of Chinese universities. Start the discussions on potential collaborations to happen),” he said.

The CHED told the Philippine News Agency that the delegates are leaders from six state universities, including the University of the Philippines, Bohol Island State University, Isabela State University, Mariano Marcos State University, University of Antique, and the University of the Philippine Open University.

Presidents and other representatives from private institutions will also join the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, including the Adamson University, Jose Rizal University, La Consolacion University Philippines, Lyceum of the Philippines University-Batangas, University of the Cordilleras, University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, and World Citi Colleges; as well as the Mabalacat City College.
