The Cebu South Bus Terminal will soon start the installation of the centralized automated ticketing system after the Provincial Board (PB) authorized Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to enter into an agreement with a technology provider.

Provincial Board Member Glenn Anthony Soco on Wednesday said the ticketing system is timely amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic where a comfortable, safe and efficient way of distributing bus tickets and handling the riding public is needed under the new normal.

Soco said the PB approved en masse on Monday the resolution authorizing Garcia to “execute and sign in behalf of the Province of Cebu, a contract agreement with Topline Hi-tech and Synergy Corp. for the design, supply, installation, operation and maintenance of centralized automated ticketing system at CSBT”.

“With the continued strict implementation of the health and safety protocols in the Province of Cebu, there is a need to modernize ticket purchase, passenger handling and management procedures through user-friendly technology that would help the bus terminal especially on peak hours when congestions are observed,” Soco said, quoting the resolution.

Carmen Quijano, CSBT officer-in-charge, said Topline president Eugene Erik Lapasaran Lim informed her on Tuesday that they will be installing the machines soon.

She said it is best to install the machines for the automated ticketing system now as the terminal currently has fewer passenger traffic compared to the pre-Covid time.

Topline Hi-tech and Synergy Corp. is a Cebu-based company providing data management and technology solutions to their clients.

Earlier, it submitted an unsolicited proposal to the Cebu provincial government to design, supply, install, operate and maintain cashless fare collection at the CSBT through a centralized automated ticketing system.

Upon the recommendation of the Economic Enterprise Council (ECC) through Resolution No. 2020-02, the provincial government declared Topline Hi-tech as the winning proponent for the project. (PNA)
