The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here on Wednesday called on voters anew to allot one day during the Christmas holidays to register for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections scheduled in October 2023.

Provincial Election Supervisor Tomas Valera made the appeal in an interview Wednesday, two days after 18 municipal election offices in Antique resumed the voter’s registration on Dec. 12.

“Since the Christmas break for students will start already this week, those 15 years old and above are being encouraged to take time to have themselves registered,” Valera said.

As of Wednesday, a total of 150 registrants were recorded by various municipal Comelec offices in the province.

“The Comelec offices in the municipalities are open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. for the voter’s registration,” Valera said.

He said the Comelec is open even on Saturdays and on Dec. 30 and Jan. 2.

During the May 9, 2022 elections, 387,998 voters registered in Antique. Valera said they expect at least the same number to participate in the Barangay and SK elections.

Voters aged between 15 and 30 years old could vote in the SK elections, while those 18 years old and above can vote for their barangay officials. (PNA)
