Three empowered women who have greatly contributed to their communities came together to share their leadership journey to fellow Filipinos on “ANCx Her Story,” the first event offering of the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) in this new year and new decade that was held at Salon De Ning of The Peninsula Manila Hotel on Tuesday (January 21).

Hosted by multi-awarded broadcast journalist Karen Davila, “ANCx Her Story” featured Nanette Medved-Po, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Generation Hope, Rachel Renucci-Tan, CEO of ChenYi Agventures, and Hon. Abigail Binay, the mayor of Makati City.

These celebrated women talked about the advocacies they are most passionate about and revealed how they defied odds towards being successful in their fields in the exclusive event.

Nanette, a former actress fondly remembered for playing Darna, shared her transition from being a public personality to an enterprising leader currently championing the project “Hope in A Bottle.”

“I started ‘HOPE’ to make a point that businesses can choose to support a social good and still make money so they will think about it in their own businesses,” she said. Nanette also mentioned that she “felt an obligation to do good” upon recognizing her power and platform as a public figure.

Rachel Renucci-Tan talked about raising rice self-sufficiency based on her experience in helping and working with farmers through ChenYi Agriventures. When typhoon Yolada hit Leyte, Rachel and her husband bid goodbye to their charmed life in Europe and returned to the Philippines to “uplift the farmers” and help them “increase their income.”

“We promised the Filipino people that we will produce world-class rice for our country and put the Philippines back on the map as a producer of world-class rice,” she explained.

Mayor Abby Binay, who’s leading one of the country’s biggest and richest cities, focused on governance and public service in her session, highlighting that Makati is maximizing technology to make an innovative impact to its citizens.

“The challenges Makati is facing is far different from 30 years ago. If we are to maintain our stand as the country’s financial center, we have to be able to know what’s around the corner. We must be able to lead, not to follow,” she stressed.

Highlights from the talk will be featured in ANC’s “Think Possible Lightbulb Sessions.”

Apart from “Her Story,” ANC has also lined up several other events this year including the ANC Leadership Series, which is part of the country’s premier all-English 24/7 cable news channel’s efforts to raise the level of discourse on global affairs and business issues in the country, and build a community among the nation’s decision-makers and game-changers.
