Another 100 Indigenous Peoples (IP) children aged 5-11 are now fully vaccinated after receiving Wednesday their second dose of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccine here.

Maria Christine Lime, the City Health Office (CHO) education and promotion officer, said Wednesday the IP children are from Barangay Rio Hondo here.

“Of the 100 children, 40 of them are enrolled at the Bihing Tahik Primary School in Rio Hondo,” Lim said in an interview.

The Bihing Tahik Primary School caters to IP children, mostly Samal and Badjao.

Lim said they continue to reach out to the eligible population, including those groups that are reluctant to be vaccinated, as the city seeks to achieve a 100 percent Covid-19 vaccination status.

As a bonus, the students and even children not enrolled at the Bihing Tahik Primary School were given fluoride treatment courtesy of the CHO dental team.

Meanwhile, CHO said it has so far administered over 1.5 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines since the start of the vaccination rollout here in March 2021.

Of the total administered doses, 96 percent or 685,114 individuals of the targeted 716,960 population have been administered with their first dose while 94 percent or 674,603 have received their second jabs.

Also, 157,353 individuals received their first booster dose, while 3,843 immunocompromised and those belonging to the A1 (health front-liners) and A2 (senior citizens) priority groups received their second vaccine booster. (PNA)
