More residents here are getting the added protection against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) after over 4,000 booster shots were administered in the past week, the City Health Office (CHO) said Wednesday.

CHO data showed that as of April 22, the city administered booster doses to 244,800 individuals, or 18.74 percent of the 1,306,446 fully immunized Dabawenyos.

The figure is higher compared to the office’s data on April 12, which recorded 240,672 individuals or 18.48 percent of the fully immunized individuals getting their booster shots.

Dr. Michelle Schlosser, Davao City Covid-19 Task Force spokesperson, reiterated that the booster shot is an added layer of protection against the severity of existing and new variants.

“We need to take this opportunity, we have the trusted brands to be administered for free,” she said.

As it moves to increase the number of inoculations, the local government has started relying more on mobile vaccinations, in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development and United Nations Children’s Fund.

The city government also sought partnerships with private businesses and establishments, particularly the business process outsourcing companies to launch mobile vaccinations in offices.

To date, vaccination hubs are placed at various shopping malls in the city to expand access for people who live far from previously available vaccination centers.

Vaccination activities also now operate from Mondays to Saturdays to provide more opportunities for working individuals and students to avail of the vaccines. (PNA)
