TikTok announced that they are the official partner for this year’s Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday, March 16. It is an annual international film festival held in Cannes, France, which will kick off on May 17 this year.

Several years ago, the film festival banned selfies on the red carpet, but through their partnership with the giant social media platform, creatives and fans all over the world can have an opportunity to have an inside look at the festival through the TikTok app.

To share their enthusiasm with the partnership, TikTok said in their statement that they celebrate the expression and experience of unleashing creativity in the world just like the Cannes Festival.

“People turn to TikTok to be entertained, express themselves or discover something new, and they share an authentic and rewarding sense of community unlike anywhere else. We’re excited to partner with the Festival de Cannes to deliver creative ways for our community to be inspired, moved and entertained, bound by a shared love of video and cinema,” says Lee Hunter, TikTok’s General Manager in Australia and New Zealand.

Cannes also expressed their delight in the partnership, noting that this partnership will help them share the festival’s magic with a wider audience who shares the same passion in appreciation and production of films.

TikTok also announced that they are launching #TikTokShortFilm. It is a global competition for TikTok users to showcase their creativity and support for filmmaking. Eligible creators are invited to share the short films they have produced with the TikTok community. This competition allows emerging filmmakers to showcase their talent in cinematography and storytelling using TikTok’s wide range of creative tools and effects.

The submission started on March 15 and the submissions will be accepted until April 8. There will be three winners for the competition and original submissions will be judged across three categories: Grand Prix, Best Script, and Best Editing. The winners for the competition will be announced at the end of April.

Details on how to join the competition can be found on TikTok’s Discover page.
