The city government is set to deploy the two buses donated by its sister city Nanning in the People’s Republic of China, an official said Tuesday.

April Marie Dayap, head of the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC), said the two buses will be used to ferry public school teachers to and from the downtown area to Marilog District and the other one will be utilized by their office for tourism purposes.

“These buses were given as a gift from our sister city,” she told Philippine News Agency (PNA), adding the bus assigned for the teachers in Marilog District will ease travel as they have been facing difficulty due to lack of public transport in the area.

She added that the other bus will serve as transport for the visiting foreign investors who would like to explore Davao City.

Being sister cities since 2007, Dayap said the buses symbolized the strong relationship and friendship between the city and Nanning.

“This is a manifestation of the help that they want to extend to Davao City but not just buses because they also offer scholarships for Dabawenyos in Nanning,” she said.

The two buses were first promised by Nanning officials during the visit of Mayor Sara Z. Duterte in May 2017.

Aside from the buses, Nanning also provided the city space in its annual garden expo that, Dayap said, “showcased the special feature of our city.”

She also added that the sister city has continuously provided an all-expense paid scholarship program to the Dabawenyos who want to study in China. (PNA)
