Some 55 young people here have attended orientation for the start of their involvement in government service through the Government Internship Program (GIP) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“Sa lahat ng trabaho, if you experienced it, mas tumatatak yun sa inyo at mas marami kayong matutunan. (In any job, if you experienced it, the more you are familiarized with it and you will learn more). Hopefully, with this experience, you will learn,” Mayor Marc Brian Lim said Monday during the orientation.

Lim encouraged the young people to believe that there is always an opportunity to get better at any problem, challenge, or difficulty.

The interns will receive PHP340 per day as a stipend for three months. They are the final batch of beneficiaries under the DOLE-GIP program this year.

Some 211 Dagupeños aged 18 to 30 benefited from the project supervised by the city government under the management of PESO, according to the city’s Public Information Office.

The project was funded by the DOLE Ilocos regional office through the office of 4th District Rep. Christopher de Venecia.

The GIP is a component of KABATAAN 2000 under Executive Order (EO) no. 139 s. 1993, and DOLE Administrative Order No. 260-15 which aims to provide young workers, particularly the poor/indigent, the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and skills in the field of public service with the ultimate goal of attracting the “best and the brightest” who want to pursue a career in government service, particularly in the fields and disciplines related to labor and employment.
