9. Birdshot

This film is the first Filipino film to be available on Netflix. Being the first, it certainly lived up to its potential of being great.

Directed by Mikhail Red and features John Arcilla, Arnold Reyes, and Mary Joy Apostol, Birdshot revolves around a 14-year old Maya, a sheltered farm girl, who intentionally kills a Philippine eagle, an endangered animal, after her father, Diego, shows her how to shoot a gun herself to learn self-sufficiency. Because of the event, a police investigation was brought onto their quiet and still life.

Another politically thought provoking film that tackles violence and corruption, this film should be on top of your to-watch list, too!
