2. Tubbataha Natural Park

Tubbataha Natural Park is a protected area in the Philippines. It was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 and nominated at the New 7 Wonders of Nature in 2008. The Tubbataha Reef is world-renowned and hence popular, but it is included in this list because it’s very inaccessible and hence, it’s hidden!

To get to Tubbataha, you need to fly to Puerto Princesa and then take a 10-12 hour boat. Most visitors of Tubbataha Reef are divers. In order to explore, they need to book liveaboards because no other accommodation facilities are available. A trip usually lasts 5-7 days and costs PHP 50,000-200,000 (USD 1,000-4,000). Ordinary Filipino tourists are kept out by this system, but it’s a price to sustain the sanctity of the area.
