Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Thursday led the oath-taking of 1,814 newly promoted educators in the Davao Region during ceremonies at the SMX Convention Center.
Angara underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening the teaching workforce and recognized the dedication of teachers advancing in their careers.
He cited the Expanded Career Progression (ECP) system championed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., assuring that “no teacher will retire as a Teacher I.”
He added that DepEd’s proposed PHP12-billion budget for 2027 would result in more than 120,000 promotions nationwide.
He urged educators to address learning deficiencies once spotted, saying, “Let us distance ourselves from the practices of the past.”
Angara also bared that Learning Action Cell (LAC) sessions — where teachers collaborate, improve teaching methods, and share best practices — will now be credited as part of teaching load hours.
To further ensure learner safety, Angara said DepEd has proposed PHP8 billion for the installation of fences, metal detectors, and closed-circuit television cameras in schools, alongside intensified efforts to address mental health concerns and strengthen school community support.
Among those promoted was Melvie Castardo, school head of Sinawilan National High School in Matanao, Davao del Sur, who rose from Principal I to Principal IV.
“I deserve this promotion. I did my best and in my three years of leadership I was able to open Senior High School and an extension school in Matanao,” she said, thanking President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. for the opportunity.
She vowed to do her best in serving her school, teachers and learners, emphasizing her commitment to further strengthen leadership and educational support in the community.
Also promoted was Nanith Paga of Rabat Rocamora Mati Central Elementary School in Mati City, Davao Oriental, who advanced to Master Teacher II.
Paga described the milestone as a “big leap” in her 21-year teaching career, expressing gratitude to the government and hoping for more benefits for educators.
“I’m already 21 years in service to DepEd. Thank you so much to our government and we are still hoping that more benefits will be given to the educators,” Paga added. (PNA)
