The Office of the Vice President (OVP) donated 24,000 bags of five-kilo rice on Tuesday for the flood and landslide-affected residents of Davao Oriental province.

The donation was turned over to the Davao Oriental government, with 13,000 bags allotted for Mati City.

Mati City Mayor Michelle Nakpil Rabat said she wanted the donation from the Vice President to go to sectoral groups such as tricycle operators and drivers’ association members, fisherfolks, persons with disabilities, and single parents, among others.

Aside from the bags of rice, the OVP also donated 15 wheelchairs to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division in Mati.

“We thanked VP Duterte for always lending a hand to Matinians in times of calamities. Last December 2023, she also donated 300 sacks of rice as a Christmas gift to the Matinians,” Rabat said.

Meanwhile, the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao and the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Davao Region (DSWD-11) welcomed the arrival of the Philippine Navy’s LD602, carrying 40,800 family food packs at Globalport Davao Terminal here on Sunday.

The food packs were hauled to the DSWD-11 warehouse and will then be distributed to local government units affected by the shear line and the trough of the low-pressure area in the region recently. (PNA)
