The Ministry of Health in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-BARMM) has inaugurated new rural health units (RHUs) and barangay health stations (BHS) in eight towns to improve healthcare services in the region.

The facilities, part of the Special Geographic Area (SGA) comprising 63 villages in six North Cotabato municipalities, aim to address decades of poor health services caused by armed conflict.

“The modern health facilities will serve even those living in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA),” MOH Minister Dr. Kadil Sinolinding said in a statement Tuesday.

He added that qualified health workers will manage the facilities to ensure efficient service delivery.

The eight new SGA towns—Old Kaabakan, Pahamuddin, Kadayangan, Kapalawan, Malidegao, Nabalawag, Tugunan, and Ligawasan—now have functioning BHS and RHUs.

Over the past 10 months, 44 RHUs and BHS have been strategically built across the area. (PNA)
