Over 3.35 million residents in the Ilocos Region, or 78 percent of the 5.35 million target population, have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as of March 8.

Based on the data issued by the Department of Health Center for Health Development Ilocos Region (DOH-CHD-1) on Tuesday, 438,958 were fully immunized in Ilocos Norte; 500,374 in Ilocos Sur; 509,973 in La Union; and 1.9 million in Pangasinan.

The data also showed that 3.6 million of the target populations have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, while 534,830 got their booster shots.

Some 620,052 have been vaccinated with the first dose in Ilocos Norte; 724,395 in Ilocos Sur; 842,047 in La Union; and 3.2 million in Pangasinan.

The DOH-CHD-1 recorded a total of 7.1 million Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the region as of Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the fourth National Vaccination Day in the Ilocos Region on March 10 to 12 will focus on protecting the most urgent and most vulnerable in society.

DOH-CHD-1 regional director Dr. Paula Paz Sydiongco said a more contextualized and granular vaccination intervention to identified targets will be implemented, such as those have missed or are due for the second dose, remaining unvaccinated senior citizens, children aged 12 to 17, booster doses of economic and health sectors, and indigenous people and those living in geographically isolated areas.

“All local government units shall ensure dissemination of targets and directives and are strongly enjoined to issue orders or ordinances to push for the last mile vaccination coverage of the most urgent and vulnerable population,” she said in an advisory. (PNA)
