Iconic 90s Anime ‘YuYu Hakusho’ Gets Live-Action Series On Netflix In 2023

Welcome to the realm of the legendary spirits.

The live-action version of the most renowned and iconic Manga series YuYu Hakusho, written and illustrated by the famed and legendary manga artist Yoshihiro Togashi, who also developed the fan-favorite Hunter X Hunter, has been set for release on Netflix in 2023.

The show will also join the Netflix live-action shows Cowboy Bebop and Once Piece, which were previously mentioned during the Netflix Festival Japan 2021 event.

YuYu Hakusho live-action project circulated around last 2020 with no definite date of the show, yet fans are already excited about it.

Serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990 to 1994, YuYu Hakusho that was written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi centers on protagonist Yusuke Urameshi, a teenage delinquent who died after being struck by a car when he attempted in saving a child’s life.

Koenma, the son of the ruler of the afterlife Underworld, gave him a number of tests and he was revived after. Going back to the mortal world, Yusuke gained the title “Underworld Detective” and he must investigate various cases that involve demons and apparitions in human society.

Yu Yu Hakusho: The Movie and Yu Yu Hakusho the Movie: Poltergeist Report are two films that are linked to this manga and anime series. In Japan, it was released in theaters in 1993 and 1994. The English dub of this anime series, which ran from February 2002 to April 2006 under the title Ghost Files, was also produced by an American producer.

After knowing everything there is to know about YuYu Hakusho, we can see why it is considered one of the most influential anime and manga series of the 1990s. It also shaped performances such as Jujutsu Kaisen.

For the time being, little is known about when this series will premiere on Netflix because no cast, directors, or writers have been assigned to the project.
