The National Durian Industry Summit 2025 will equip local farmers to expand the global reach of Davao Region’s “king of fruits,” organizers announced Thursday.

In an interview facilitated by the City Information Office, Fe Oguio, agriculturist and durian focal person of the City Agriculturist Office, said the Nov. 25-26 event will give farmers direct access to international experts.

“This is an opportunity for farmers to get first-hand information. If you have concerns, this is your chance to ask questions. In the Philippines, we are still behind in durian technology—we have a lot to learn,” Oguio told the Philippine News Agency.

She reported significant growth in the local industry, with 19 factories now operating compared to just three previously engaged in durian exports.

Oguio encouraged broad participation from growers, noting the summit’s strategic importance.

“I encourage all farmers, especially those in durian production, to join. A lot can be learned from this two-day summit, and it’s also a chance to network with exhibitors,” she added.

Organizers said in a public statement the summit aims to “scale our pride—Philippine durian—to new global heights.”

International speakers from Malaysia, Thailand and Australia will share expertise on production techniques and international quality standards for the event, which expects 350-400 local durian farmers. (PNA)
