The Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW) on Monday assured its clients that efforts are being made to fast-track the replacement of a broken pumping station as it deploys water tankers to areas affected by an unforeseen water service interruption.

MDW, a joint venture between Metro Pacific Water and the Dumaguete City Water District, said in a media release that due to power fluctuation over the weekend, its Pumping Station 14 in Barangay Bajumpandan here broke down early Monday.

“It resulted in a pump burnout and MDW is now undertaking repairs to ensure that water supply will soon be restored at the earliest time possible,” Kate Young, MDW spokesperson, told the Philippine News Agency in an interview.

As of 3 p.m. Monday, four out of the 17 pipe columns were already pulled out from the broken pumping station.

Affected by the ongoing replacement of the pump and motor are Barangays Mangnao, Banilad, and Bajumpandan, with residents experiencing low pressure to no water.

Estimated full resumption of water supply will be at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Young said.

Water tankers were already deployed to provide water to the affected areas and residents are asked to prepare their containers, she added.

Meanwhile, the Negros Oriental Electric Cooperative II (NORECO II) could not be contacted for comment on the supposed power fluctuation which MDW said started on Sunday. (PNA)
