The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) separately broke ground Friday for PHP115 million worth of infrastructure projects here.
The projects include a sports center and Sangguniang Panlungsod building in Barangay Limo-ok, and two multipurpose buildings — one in Barangay Sengal and the other at Mabini Elementary School in Barangay Maganda.
Vice Mayor Hegem Furigay said Friday that PHP70 million of the total allocation for the projects came from the office of TGP Partylist Rep. Jose Teves Jr. and the remaining PHP45 million was obtained from the office of Sen. Aquilino Pimentel III.
“It is of big help to the city since we have a limited budget for infrastructure projects,” Furigay said in an interview.
He said the counterpart of the city and the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao are the lots where the projects will be constructed.
Furigay and Rep. Mujiv Hataman of this province led the groundbreaking ceremonies.
Myra Borja Mangkabung, schools division superintendent, said the multipurpose buildings, once completed, is just in time because the Mabini Elementary School is due for conversion into an integrated school that will accept high school students.
Mangkabung said the school’s conversion would help decongest other public high schools here, noting that the area currently has a shortage of about 200 classrooms. (PNA)
