Various fast food chains in Davao City will soon begin hiring senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWD), the city government announced Friday.

In a news release, the city government said the 20th Davao City Council approved the ordinance that grants authority to the Davao City Mayor to sign a memorandum of agreement with identified fast food chains regarding work opportunities for senior citizens and differently-abled individuals.

Key offices, including the Davao City Public Employment Services Office, Department of Labor and Employment, and Davao City Legal Office, shared insights during the crafting of the said ordinance.

The resolution aims to open more employment opportunities for senior citizens, recognizing that many of them remain strong and healthy.

“Even retirees are not necessarily frail or incapable but are still able to contribute significantly to society,” the resolution stated.

The resolution added that there is a need to provide more policies and programs for senior citizens by encouraging the private sector to establish employment programs for them. (PNA)
