The municipality of Mawab in Davao de Oro has begun giving a PHP1,000 cash gift to every registered senior citizen on their birthday, the mayor announced Monday.
Mayor Myrill Apit said the program is part of a broader agenda to strengthen social protection for the elderly.
“In Mawab, our lolos and lolas are not only remembered—they are honored,” Apit said in an interview.
She described the initiative as a gesture of recognition for the lifelong contributions of senior citizens and a reflection of the local government’s commitment to inclusive governance.
The mayor added that the LGU remains dedicated to sustaining programs that promote the welfare and dignity of seniors. (PNA)
