The Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) has reopened on Monday after being closed for 14 months due to the community quarantine restrictions.

City Mayor Edgardo Labella was one of the first joggers and fitness enthusiasts who visited the CCSC on Monday morning.

“I had a refreshing Monday morning jog-walk at the Cebu City Sports oval earlier. Its first day of opening today has thrilled many who want to use it again after so long, after it was closed due to the pandemic,” he said in a mix of Cebuano and English.

To ensure that everyone continues to stay safe, Labella said sports center manager Jundel Bontuyan “has been given instructions to ensure the proper observance of health protocols.”

Labella said CCSC’s eight-lane rubberized track oval is open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Mondays to Saturdays. On Sundays, it will be opened only from 5 a.m. to 12 noon to give way to disinfection.

The reopening of CCSC has received a positive response from fitness enthusiasts.

The management laid down the rules and regulations as it reopened, and appealed to joggers and walkers at the track oval to follow the necessary health and safety protocols that are being imposed in compliance with the rules of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Only 200 individuals are allowed to use the oval at one time. The spacious grandstand area is designated as a waiting area for those next in line.

The entrance fee at the oval remains the same at PHP15.

Other facilities in the CCSC such as the boxing gym, fitness center, swimming pool and others will also reopen soon.

The management said it would take time for them to repair and maintain all of the facilities of the sports center especially the swimming pool area, which is targeted to reopen by June or July. (PNA)
