Akbayan Youth expressed concern over the statement made by the DOH for hospital staff to stop soliciting for donations for supplies on social media.

“Health workers won’t ask for donations online if support from DOH is sufficient. We cannot keep on denying the lack supplies happening in our hospitals. When the frontliners’ own lives are at stake, it’s insensitive to fault them for seeking help from the public,” Akbayan Youth Chairperson Dr. RJ Naguit said.

“Rather than suppressing active citizenship and policing our health workers, the DOH must to a better job in proactively mapping out the needs of the different hospitals and simply addressing the lack of supply”, Naguit said.

“Our overworked and underpaid frontliners need all support they can get more than ever. While they show to our country their dedication to serve by continuing to care for the sick, I hope we also address long standing concerns on their welfare by ensuring just compensation, safe working conditions, and due recognition for their efforts” , Naguit added.
