A total of 92 senior citizens in Surigao City aged 80, 85, 90, and 95 received PHP100,000 each under Republic Act No. 11982, or the Expanded Centenarian Act of 2023, on Tuesday.

The release of benefits was facilitated by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the National Commission on Senior Citizens.

“The support and care for the senior citizens will continue through the partnership of the local government and the national agencies,” the Public Information Office of Surigao City said in a statement.

Of the total beneficiaries, 53 were 80 years old, 26 were aged 85, 17 were 90, and two were 95.

The PIO also urged families of senior citizens who wish to apply for benefits to visit the CSWDO for information and assistance.

Last week, around 7,690 indigent senior citizens from different barangays in the city received their social pensions for the second quarter of this year, facilitated by the CSWDO and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Caraga Region (DSWD-13). (PNA)
