The Department of Health (DOH) 10 (Northern Mindanao) is optimistic it will surpass its measles-rubella vaccination target for the region.

The DOH launched the Measles-Rubella Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) in Mindanao from Jan. 19 to Feb. 13, aiming to vaccinate 90 to 95 percent of children aged 6 to 59 months.

During the launch in this city on Monday, DOH-10 Director Dr. Sulpicio Henry M. Legaspi Jr. said the agency is intensifying its campaign on MR-SIA because children’s health and development are top priorities in its implementation.

“We are conducting these activities because we want children to be protected. It ensures our future generation is away from illnesses,” he said.

DOH-10 said the region had 411 measles cases in 2025, an 11 percent increase from 371 cases in 2024.

In Mindanao alone, the DOH is reportedly planning to vaccinate nearly 3 million children against the disease. (PNA)
